website updated in sections "Events" and "Docu_Bites".
Call for Collaborators re: Art's Birthday now available.
Matt is working on mapping sounds again for AUDIOMOBILE.
There is a similar project called "Teletaxi" by a group called Year01.
Mmhh...

The SB Residency has ended and the weekend events went well.
We had a meeting on monday to determine what will happen for Art's Birthday in January.
The AUDIOMOBILE rides again today and tomorrow as part of an electronic music series partially hosted by WF Music program.
the test drive yesterday revealed that certain trigger sounds don't work yet...the ambient ones seem fine.
Matt extended the insurance for the limo, so we have more time to experiment etc.

sandra:
last week's time was spent mostly on re-installing the audio hardware including amplifier suspension, rebuilding the seat mounts, scraping off the old vinyl lettering, migrating the MAX patch to OSX, editing sounds etc.
Thanks to Ken for his generousity with everything.

Yesterday, thursday, Matt and me mapped about 25 spots in the city.
The GPS crapped out for 5 minutes due to a power cable defect which is now fixed. a few coordinates are scrambled, so we have to look into that. the ambient areas we mapped sounded great and the directional diffusion worked well.
The mapping process for sounds is quite involving, because each variable is referred to by another one. i suppose that's whats called "programming".

Anyhow, Matts got an interview today with somebody from Vancouver Sun.
we'll head off now to the pressure washing and vinyl application.

Audiomobile:

time spent on Limo hardware yesterday, mainly the upholstery of the back seat after a vicious attack on the artwork :P
a new challenge is to install better seatbelts in the mid-section.

Ken: September 19
Spent the week researching power supply circuits for the sunsuckers. The solar panels work great in the bright sunlight but on overcast days there is not enough power. I want to use a battery charger with NiMh batteries to keep things working along with the solar panels during the non sunny days. So far, little success getting things working. I don't feel like I am getting anything done now.
Trying to visualize what the sunsuckers are going to be physically. They have to be weather proof. Thought of a hanging plant kind of thing where all the parts are strung out like branches in a umbrella like formation with everything coated in clear silcone rubber material. Also thought up a plan where everything is inserted inside a 3" x 22" PVC pipe. Then I could use 'magic' arms to mount them on street light standards with the solar panels facing south. The oringinal plan was to put everything inside of a clear plastic 2 litre drink bottle and suspend them from tree branches.

Sandra
brought the Scrambled Bites postcard to the printer-rush service till tuesday.
hope it'll look alright color wise.
still working on website, residency section is pretty much completed, now only missing data visualizer,events/timeline and documentation part.

had some ideas for future Audiomobile project series, one involving local fm radio and a "hijacking" function with delayed playback to relocate original sound events to different environments..
PS: freaked out by the self-healing minefield

Ken: Friday September 5..I got he webserver using Max working late Friday afternoon last. Couldn't get the RF serial working in full duplex mode on anything.

Monday September 8.. . Solved the RF problems left over from Friday. This required diving deep into the Basic Stamp List forum archives. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/basicstamps/ With a low parts overhead (thanks to Peter), by the end of the day I had the wireless RF serial networking for the installation AND the wireless RF serial connection to the Powerbook working. Last week I was thinking I'm way over my head, today it's .."what's next on the to do list?"
Evening: Drove the van around with Matt so could try out some of his GPS programing.

Tuedsay September 9 .. Spent the day researching microprocessor based web servers.
SitePlayer
TINI
Red-i BASIC Stamp Web Server

Also ordered a few different types of solar cell panels to try out.
SOLAR PANEL,3V@.036A
solar cells

I think I'm catching the groove on this web log.

Wednesday Sept 10.. Peter got the server side Java stuff working today at a basic level. We ran a Max patch using Norm Jaffes TCP/IP objects to communicate with the server.

Thursday Sept 11.. somebody elses outdoor wireless embedded networking research :(

Some of the necessary map transformations for underlying framework of Audiomobile turned out a bit easier than expected, resulting in a comfortable time-surplus - what a rare occurance!

But it will allow us to concentrate more on implementing a TCP/IP network link via GSM/GPRS technology, even while alot of details still need figuring out so the final software does a convincing job at the spatializing within the vehicle.

Sandra: the sitemap for the SB website is a bit clearer now. besides the documentation part, it will have a section i now call "SCRAMBLER", which consists of a visualisation (graph) of the SB data flow and an interference interface /interferace to remotely re- route and switch data flow on and off between the single objects.

Matt: finally sat down and started working on porting the OS9 GPS max-patch to OSX but got stumped - back to OS9 and on with some transformation math. more reading needs to be done...

Ken: Working on getting full duplex wireless RF serial transmissions working with the Basic Stamp and the G3. Can get the computer to receive messages from a Stamp but can't get the stamp to receive messages from the computer. It all worked last year when I bought this stuff. Spending lots of time checking connections and measuring voltages with the multimeter. I think I need more light or glasses. Getting into a discussion about conceptualization issues concerning networked data streaming art on thepolar/solar list.

Ken: Got the solar power working for one of the remote Stamp based sound modules. It only works in the bright sunlight. Want to make it work in the shade as well.

Eventually I will add a charge cirbuit with a rechargeable battery for nighttime action. Also got the remote sound module to send sensor data wirelessly to the G3 running Max. Sat in on Matts presentation about the limo at the Upgrade discussion evening series .
