How to navigate the site as a viewer or browser

1. Using the MAP

The top level map has nine areas. Each area contains a list of locations that can be inhabited by sound-artists. Locations with links will take you to the sound-art venues. Locations without links are uninhabited. A (downwards triangle) link beside the name will give you access to the history of an uninhabited location

2. The SCHEDULE

The schedule is a list of upcoming streaming events with dates, times and links to the venues where each event takes place.

3. The VENUES

This page gives you a list of participants, links to their web-sites and links to the map locations that each artist inhabits.

4. Set your TIMEZONE

Reverie includes artists and events from around the world. The Timezone page allows you to set your local timezone so that the dates and times in the schedule will be converted to your local time. These timezones are relative to GMT (Greenwich Mean Time).

Help for participating sound-artists

1. To Login and Find Venues

Participating artists can login to Reverie at http://reverie.aaeol.ca/login.p

If you are interested in participating, and would like to have a username and password on the system, please e-mail reverie-info@front.bc.ca

Once you are logged into the virtual city you can navigate through the map to choose venues to inhabit and to schedule streaming events.

As you browse through the nine regions of the city, the links to individual locations will appear in one of three ways:

A normal text link -> indicates that the location is inhabited by someone else.

A Δ (triangle) link beside the location name -> indicates that the location is uninhabited. Click the Δ if you want to inhabit this location.

A Δ (triangle) + a full text link -> indicates that this venue is already inhabited by you. Click on the link to view or edit the location.

2. Inhabiting and Updating a Venue

There is a simple form that allows you to input or update information on a venue. Each venue has a name, a description and a panoramic image (600 x 150 pixels).

Start by inhabiting a vacant location. Once you own the venue, you can return to the form-page to update your information. The form-page also gives you options to Renovate or Vacate.

Renovate allows you to archive the current description of your venue, and create a completely new (renovated) description that will become the active description. Each location on the map has a history. Venues that have past incarnations, will display 'past' and 'future' links on the venue page.

Vacate allows you to archive the current description and then leave the location vacant (uninhabited) so that someone else can use it.

3. Scheduling Streaming Events

Once you have inhabited a venue you can schedule events by clicking on the "Review or Schedule Events" link on the venue page. This link will give you a list of upcoming and archived events.

Click on "Add a New Event" to schedule a new event. Each event has a name, a link to an audio-stream or web-page for the event, and start and end times.

Note: set your timezone using the timezone page, then you can schedule events in your local time and the times will be converted for other users around the world.

Events can be edited or deleted as long as they are either current or upcoming. Once the end time has passed, the event will be archived. At this point you can upload a short archive sound file (mpeg-3 or other audio format) so that viewers can hear a sample of the live event.
